We recognize that staff and students are working hard during this digital learning and hope to give back a bit of fun and appreciation!!  For that reason, all staff and students that earn a Spartan PRIDE card will be placed in a drawing and if chosen, will be sent a PRIDE Prize (gift card, Spartan Gear, etc) :)

WFRV Channel 5 highlighted the work of our students and community partners on the Oshkosh North Veterans Courtyard.  Maddie Asen & Christo Giannopoulos (both sophomores) were interviewed on Local 5 This Morning this week. Here is the link to the interview.  
Just to update you on our progress, nearly 80 alum/staff  have requested a veteran brick.  We have 10-15 community partners who have pledged a donation.  If you know of someone or organization who might be interested in this project, have them visit the Communities website to learn more or register.

School pictures have arrived!
If your student had their school picture taken on September 3 or 4 you may pick them up on the following days and times next week. Also, if students had their picture taken on Sept. 3 or 4 and did not order pictures at that time, they may also pick up their proof next week. It will have a code to their photo gallery so you are able to order online.
Please come to North visitor entrance door #7, press the call button and someone will be there to help you. If you could please provide your student’s name and English teacher we will then hand them to you at the door. If you have not had your school picture taken yet, we will be rescheduling picture retake days as October 15 & 16 have been postponed, we will share the rescheduled dates with you as soon as we are able. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.

Early Intervention Conference is Monday October 19th.  These conferences are by invite only.  You should be receiving or have received an email from the teacher/staff member that would like to meet with you.  During your assigned time on Monday, please click on the link within the email and your virtual conference with your teacher or staff member will begin.  
These conferences are meant to intervene early, so students can still be successful.  Please make every attempt to attend these conferences. If you can not make them, please reach out to the teacher/staff member to make sure they can communicate with you at another time.   

I want to thank everyone who has taken the survey on Model 4 Learning. We are using your feedback to help guide how we navigate Model 4 Learning. If you have not taken the survey yet, you can until Friday (16th) at noon.  Thank you for your continued support and partnership.  

Living Digitally - Safe, Responsible, Respectful
We teach our students to be responsible, respectful, and safe. This includes when they’re on a device too! We know our students are online right now more than usual. That’s why talking about digital citizenship topics is so important! Such topics include communicating online with others, privacy, media balance, copyright, cyberbullying, how to determine real information vs. fake, and so on. Media Balance for a Healthy Lifestyle
To kick off Digital Citizenship Week, the Oshkosh Area School District is initiating steps to assist students and parents balance their media use. A good digital citizen uses technology appropriately to navigate responsibly in a digital environment. This means establishing and maintaining a healthy balance of online time and unplugged time.  

Areas of concern noted by OASD staff include: Undue stress, heightened anxiety, and lack of sleep. Check out this article “5 Signs of Screen Overload”. To facilitate a better media balance, the OASD is initiating limited access hours from midnight to 6:00 am on student district devices, starting Monday, October 19. During limited access hours, students will only have access to essential educational sites and services. This assists students in making better decisions about their digital, screen, and sleep habits.

Student Handbook 2020-21

Yearbook/School Picture Information for 2020-2021
You can order  a yearbook through IC (go to account, fees, optional payments). If you are unable to purchase the yearbook online, you could also send a check, written out to ONHS Yearbook. Send it back to Sara Klein, Oshkosh North High School, 1100 W Smith Avenue, Oshkosh, WI 54901.  Make sure you include who is purchasing the yearbook.  After October 2, the price goes up to $65. 
      
PICTURE RETAKE DAYS - POSTPONED
Picture retakes were originally scheduled to be on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16 from 7:30-11:00AM but have been postponed due to virtual learning. Communication will be sent to all students and families when it has been rescheduled, we appreciate your patience and understanding.  If you have additional questions about picture day, you can contact Network Photography at 262-677-8662.

SENIOR PICTURE INFORMATION
Senior pictures are due to Ms. Klein, the yearbook advisor, by October 31. Pictures can be sent as a jpeg file to oshkoshnorthyearbook@gmail.com If it is not possible to send the pictures digitally, a hard copy can be brought to Ms. Klein’s classroom, which is Room 235.

Reflections Yearbook Senior Ad Contract for 2020-2021

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL CALLS REGARDING ATTENDANCE SHOULD BE MADE DIRECTLY TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE AT 424-0288. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE MAIN OFFICE NUMBER WITH YOUR ATTENDANCE CALLS. The Attendance office receives a high volume of calls particularly in the morning. If your call is not answered please leave a message. For ATTENDANCE messages after 3:30PM, dial 424-0288 and leave a voicemail message. Students who anticipate an upcoming absence from school should also contact the Attendance Office.

As we kick off the 2020-21 school year we want to warmly welcome parents and students to revisit the many ways the counseling staff at North can be of assistance. 

In addition, we would also like to remind families which grade level each counselor is assigned. Please see the list of counselors by grade group below. How does this change each year? Each year, the counselor will loop with her class up to the next level, while the senior counselor will move to the freshman grade level.

Here is our current plan for the winter season.  As always, it can change in a minute's notice.

• Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Hockey and Gymnastics will start practice on Monday, 11/16
• Boys Basketball, Boys Swimming & Diving and Wrestling will start practice on Monday, 11/23

Winter Sports seasons were pushed back 1 week and shortened by 2 weeks at the end of the season for a total of 3 weeks.  Right now we are just looking at competing against FVA schools and select non-conference opponents.  Invites and larger events are unlikely to occur but we'll see what happens.

Fall sports are now scheduled to start in the early spring:  

• Girls Swim starts on Feb. 15th,
• Volleyball on Feb. 22nd,
• Football and Girls Tennis on March 8th 
• Cross Country on March 15th,
• Boys Soccer on March 22nd 
• Girls Golf on March 29th

The "Fall" season will conclude by late April/early May.  There WILL be games and practices scheduled during spring break (3/29 - 4/2). Fall and Spring sports seasons will overlap slightly and each program will work together so our student-athletes can participate in both seasons.  We are back loading the spring schedules with games to allow fall sports to complete their seasons.  We want to avoid student-athletes having to choose between fall and spring sports, they can do both!   Communication between coaches and student-athletes will be key to this working out!

Spring sports have been pushed back by about a month from their traditional starting dates and the new start dates are as follows:

• Baseball, Boys Golf, Softball and Boys & Girls Track will start April 19th
• Girls Soccer will start on April 26th 
• Boys Tennis on May 3rd.

Spring sports will conclude by mid to late June.

We are hoping to start after school strength and conditioning and some open gyms on Monday, Sept, 14th if we get approval from Central office and WCHD.  I'd be glad to answer any questions parents/students might have to the best of my ability.  I know there is a lot of uneasiness right now but we are working hard to put together 3 condensed seasons for the student-athletes and coaches this year!  Ultimately our COVID numbers are driving all decisions.

OASD Model 3 Hybrid Calendar 2020-21

The Oshkosh Area School District has two school funding requests on the Nov. 3 ballot:
Q1: renew existing funds for school operations
Q2: invest capital funds to improve district school buildings

If voters approve Q1, funds would support academic programs, technology for learning and student support services - with no tax increase.

If voters approve Q2, funds would be invested in our school buildings to improve safety and accessibility, provide more flexible learning spaces, address building maintenance needs and create more cost-effective schools.

The OASD COVID-19 Dashboard is now available on the District website.

While in Model 4: Virtual Learning, this dashboard will replace the school-wide letters that were previously sent to families and staff each time there was a positive case of COVID-19 within a school or program. That means that we will no longer be sending school-wide notices regarding positive cases, and instead, encourage families and staff to visit our online dashboard for this information. However, please know that if a student or staff member is determined to be a close contact to a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in a school or program, families and staff will still be notified as quickly as possible with close contact and quarantine information.

In our continual effort ot increase safety and security at our schools, the Oshkosh Area School District has expanded its safety protocols through the use of the Raptor Visitor Management System. The new visitor management system will be implemented on March 16, 2020, at all OASD schools.

Upon entering a school building, visitors will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID or simply provide their name and date of birth, which will be checked against a national sex offender database to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our buildings. The system will also create a badge for visitors to wear while visiting a school. All visitors that wish to enter student areas of a school OR pick-up a student during school hours will be required to sign-in using the Raptor system. Visitors that are simply dropping something off at the office or meeting with office staff will not need to use the system. 

If a parent/guardian or visitor does not have a US government-issued ID, the school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name and date of birth into the Raptor system. The only data collected is the individual’s name, date of birth, and picture. No other pieces of information are collected nor is any of this information shared with any outside agency. 

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority and the District has been proactive in implementing a layered approach to school safety. The Raptor Visitor Management System will allow us to quickly identify those that should not have access to our schools, and ensure that we continue to provide a safe and welcoming school environment.
