Letter to North Students and Families 1.28.21

In the purpose of maintaining clear communication as we switch between models of learning, we thought it would be a good time to review digital citizenship and etiquette. With the increase in online communication it is important that we are considerate of the times we are emailing and chatting others as well as the content of a message. Response times will vary between teachers, so please allow 24 hours for teachers to respond before sending a follow up communication, unless it is an emergency. As a reminder, all communication occurring through district email is open to the public.

North Families,
This is just a friendly reminder to buy your child a yearbook if you want one available at the end of the year. I have to give my printer a count on Monday, February 1 so if you do not order one by then, your child may not have a yearbook available to him/her/them. Sometimes there are extras printed (overages), but they are not guaranteed, so please order by Monday, February 1! They are $75 and can be bought on IC (under fees/my accounts/optional payments) or through the School Bank with cash or check. I am sending the count to my Walsworth Rep at 4:00 pm on Monday (my deadline), so order before then! Thank you!

Starting next week Wednesday, February 3rd, we will once again be partnering with Feeding America to help distribute the Farm to Family boxes along with our school meals. To accommodate for this, we will be going down to one meal distribution on Wednesdays. The distribution will be from 4:30-6:30pm at Oshkosh West High School. 
Family food boxes will be available to anyone in the community. Five days worth of meals from the school district will also be available for any child 18 and under. We encourage families looking for meals for eAcademy students, meals for student's virtual days or meals for children not yet enrolled in school to visit this distribution. 
We are asking that anyone interested in picking up boxes or meals not enter the parking lot prior to 4pm to ensure students and staff can safely exit the parking lot before the distribution begins. 

BASEBALL TEAM - FEBRUARY FUNDRAISER 
Every Monday in February the Oshkosh North baseball team will be having a fundraiser at Dublin's in Oshkosh.  10% of all sales will be given back to the baseball program.  This is for dine in and carryout from 5-8 pm. Please click on this link  for more information. Thank you for your support.

No in person athletic code meetings this year due to Covid unfortunately.  All FVA schools are now allowing 2 spectators per player (Hortonville is 4). Most are not charging admission.  

As February approaches the post season will begin for most winter sports.  This year's regionals, sectionals and state competitions will look very different due to Covid but we are happy for the opportunity to participate and compete! 

Fall sports are now scheduled to start in the early spring:  

• Girls Swimming and Diving starts on Feb. 8th,
• Girls Volleyball on Feb. 22nd,
• Football and Girls Tennis on March 8th 
• Cross Country on March 15th,
• Boys Soccer on March 22nd 
• Girls Golf on March 29th

The "Fall" season will conclude by late April/early May.  There WILL be games and practices scheduled during spring break (3/29 - 4/2). Fall and Spring sports seasons will overlap slightly and each program will work together so our student-athletes can participate in both seasons.  We are back loading the spring schedules with games to allow fall sports to complete their seasons.  We want to avoid student-athletes having to choose between fall and spring sports, they can do both!   Communication between coaches and student-athletes will be key to this working out!

Spring sports have been pushed back by about a month from their traditional starting dates and the new start dates are as follows:

• Baseball, Boys Golf, Softball and Boys & Girls Track will start April 19th
• Girls Soccer will start on April 26th 
• Boys Tennis on May 3rd.

Spring sports will conclude by mid to late June.

I'd be glad to answer any questions parents/students might have to the best of my ability.  I know there is a lot of uneasiness right now but we are working hard to put together 3 condensed seasons for the student-athletes and coaches this year!  Ultimately our COVID numbers are driving all decisions.

SENIOR SLIDESHOW INFORMATION
We are starting to accept baby pictures for the senior slideshow. Send them to oshkoshnorthyearbook@gmail.com or bring them in to Room 235 with your name on the back. We would like these by February 14. You can also start sending in friends pictures, pictures of you and friends at events, sports pictures, etc...each student can send 5. We will use as many as we can, first come, first served.

Hi parents of seniors! If you'd like to purchase a senior ad, click on the link below for more information. We would like all ads purchased by Valentine's Day.  We have five spreads set aside and once they're bought, they're gone. Last year we sold out, so make sure to get your contracts in as soon as possible. If you're worried about design, my students can put these together for you. These are an amazing keepsake for your child, to get their own shout out in the yearbook, especially this year with everything that's been canceled.

Dear Spartan Parents

It has been a long wait but we are finally ready to start winter sports competitions.  It will be great to see our student-athletes competing again.  Please note that each school district in our conference is handling fan attendance as a district based decision. Appleton is currently not allowing any fans to attend athletic events.  Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly and Neenah will be allowing up to 2 fans to attend for each student-athlete.  Each of these schools may have a different way of handling spectators so we will be sharing with you each of these district's protocols a few days in advance of away games. 

All FVA schools will be live-streaming all varsity and some sub-varsity athletic events.   The OASD will be live-streaming all levels of our home athletic events.  The district has created a YouTube channel for each high school and the attached sheet explains everything you need to know about how our live streaming will work for our home events.  Also, below is the FVA website link that has all of the streaming information for the other FVA schools when we are away at their site.  If you have any questions please let me know and thanks for your support of Spartan Athletics!

The OASD COVID-19 Dashboard is now available on the District website.

While in Model 4: Virtual Learning, this dashboard will replace the school-wide letters that were previously sent to families and staff each time there was a positive case of COVID-19 within a school or program. That means that we will no longer be sending school-wide notices regarding positive cases, and instead, encourage families and staff to visit our online dashboard for this information. However, please know that if a student or staff member is determined to be a close contact to a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in a school or program, families and staff will still be notified as quickly as possible with close contact and quarantine information. 

In our continual effort ot increase safety and security at our schools, the Oshkosh Area School District has expanded its safety protocols through the use of the Raptor Visitor Management System. The new visitor management system will be implemented on March 16, 2020, at all OASD schools.

Upon entering a school building, visitors will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID or simply provide their name and date of birth, which will be checked against a national sex offender database to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our buildings. The system will also create a badge for visitors to wear while visiting a school. All visitors that wish to enter student areas of a school OR pick-up a student during school hours will be required to sign-in using the Raptor system. Visitors that are simply dropping something off at the office or meeting with office staff will not need to use the system. 

If a parent/guardian or visitor does not have a US government-issued ID, the school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name and date of birth into the Raptor system. The only data collected is the individual’s name, date of birth, and picture. No other pieces of information are collected nor is any of this information shared with any outside agency. 

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority and the District has been proactive in implementing a layered approach to school safety. The Raptor Visitor Management System will allow us to quickly identify those that should not have access to our schools, and ensure that we continue to provide a safe and welcoming school environment.
