The City of Oshkosh City Clerk is reaching out to see if there are any high school students who would be interested in being a part of the election process on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Per the Wisconsin State Statutes 7.30 (2) (am) students:

·be 16 or 17 years of age and who is enrolled in grades 9 to 12

·grade point average of at least 3.0

·approval of student’s parent

·signed certification of school principal

The application below is to be completed by the high school student along with the authorization form that needs to be signed by a parent and the principal.  Both forms should be completed and filed together with the City Clerk’s Office by Thursday, March 11th. Any applications received after March 11th will be assigned only if there are cancellations. Students may drop the forms off at the City Clerk’s Office (215 Church Avenue, 1st floor, counter 108); or place in the drop box at the City Hall entrance.  The rate of pay is $8.50 per hour and the hours are from 6 am to 8 pm with lunch & dinner breaks.

In late March there will be a training session, depending on how many students participate.  The date, time & location will be communicated once this is determined.

The Election Chairs at each polling site in the November election truly appreciated having the students be a part of the election process. Looking forward to having the students be a part of the election team!

The OASD is once again participating in the Technology Education and Literacy in Schools (TEALS) program in the 2020-2021 school year. TEALS is a Microsoft Philanthropies program that connects classroom teachers with tech-industry volunteers to create sustainable computer science programs at high schools. This unique program places passionate technology professionals into high school classrooms as volunteer instructors working with OASD classroom teachers - Mr.Waid at Oshkosh North High School and Mr.Bartel at Oshkosh West High School. The 2021-22 school year will be the third year of our partnership with TEALS.

No in person athletic code meetings this year due to Covid unfortunately.  All FVA schools are now allowing 2 spectators per player (Hortonville is 4). Most are not charging admission.  

Fall sports are now scheduled to start in the early spring:  

• Football and Girls Tennis on March 8th 
• Cross Country on March 15th,
• Boys Soccer on March 22nd 
• Girls Golf on March 29th

The "Fall" season will conclude by late April/early May.  There WILL be games and practices scheduled during spring break (3/29 - 4/2). Fall and Spring sports seasons will overlap slightly and each program will work together so our student-athletes can participate in both seasons.  We are back loading the spring schedules with games to allow fall sports to complete their seasons.  We want to avoid student-athletes having to choose between fall and spring sports, they can do both!   Communication between coaches and student-athletes will be key to this working out!

Spring sports have been pushed back by about a month from their traditional starting dates and the new start dates are as follows:

• Baseball, Boys Golf, Softball and Boys & Girls Track will start April 19th
• Girls Soccer will start on April 26th 
• Boys Tennis on May 3rd.

Spring sports will conclude by mid to late June.

I'd be glad to answer any questions parents/students might have to the best of my ability.  I know there is a lot of uneasiness right now but we are working hard to put together 3 condensed seasons for the student-athletes and coaches this year!  Ultimately our COVID numbers are driving all decisions.

"March is National Athletic Training Month.  Ascension Sports Medicine Wisconsin provides athletic training services to the students, athletes, and staff within your community.  As the community entered the pandemic and quarantine associated with COVID-19, the Ascension Licensed Athletic Trainers were redeployed into performing hospital entrance screenings, pre-operative COVID-19 testing and COVID-19 patient transport, all the while missing their place in the athletic training rooms and on the bench and sidelines for their games and the day to day interaction with their athletes.  As schools have returned to in-person instruction and athletic seasons, the Licensed Athletic Trainers have returned to the athletic training rooms and sidelines.  So for this month, take a moment to thank your Licensed Athletic Trainer for all they do to serve, protect and care for your students and a special thank you for continuing to serve the community during the pandemic."

Dear Spartan Parents

Please note that each school district in our conference is handling fan attendance as a district based decision. Appleton is currently not allowing any fans to attend athletic events.  Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly and Neenah will be allowing up to 2 fans to attend for each student-athlete.  Each of these schools may have a different way of handling spectators so we will be sharing with you each of these district's protocols a few days in advance of away games. 

All FVA schools will be live-streaming all varsity and some sub-varsity athletic events.   The OASD will be live-streaming all levels of our home athletic events.  The district has created a YouTube channel for each high school and the attached sheet explains everything you need to know about how our live streaming will work for our home events.  Also, below is the FVA website link that has all of the streaming information for the other FVA schools when we are away at their site.  If you have any questions please let me know and thanks for your support of Spartan Athletics!

The OASD COVID-19 Dashboard is now available on the District website.

While in Model 4: Virtual Learning, this dashboard will replace the school-wide letters that were previously sent to families and staff each time there was a positive case of COVID-19 within a school or program. That means that we will no longer be sending school-wide notices regarding positive cases, and instead, encourage families and staff to visit our online dashboard for this information. However, please know that if a student or staff member is determined to be a close contact to a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in a school or program, families and staff will still be notified as quickly as possible with close contact and quarantine information. 

In our continual effort ot increase safety and security at our schools, the Oshkosh Area School District has expanded its safety protocols through the use of the Raptor Visitor Management System. The new visitor management system will be implemented on March 16, 2020, at all OASD schools.

Upon entering a school building, visitors will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID or simply provide their name and date of birth, which will be checked against a national sex offender database to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our buildings. The system will also create a badge for visitors to wear while visiting a school. All visitors that wish to enter student areas of a school OR pick-up a student during school hours will be required to sign-in using the Raptor system. Visitors that are simply dropping something off at the office or meeting with office staff will not need to use the system. 

If a parent/guardian or visitor does not have a US government-issued ID, the school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name and date of birth into the Raptor system. The only data collected is the individual’s name, date of birth, and picture. No other pieces of information are collected nor is any of this information shared with any outside agency. 

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority and the District has been proactive in implementing a layered approach to school safety. The Raptor Visitor Management System will allow us to quickly identify those that should not have access to our schools, and ensure that we continue to provide a safe and welcoming school environment.

Are you (or your student) looking for a different and exciting high school experience for next year? Are you interested in jumpstarting a career in manufacturing with an industry-leading Fortune 500 company - all while earning a regular high school diploma?

The School to Work (S2W) Program is a partnership between the Oshkosh Area School District and Oshkosh Corporation. As a two-year program, S2W provides an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to earn their high school diploma in a non-traditional environment. Each day, a rigorous academic program will be combined with developing manufacturing and employability skills in a hands-on learning environment. Students will attend class for 3 hours per day and will work for 4 hours. This is a paid experience, and each student will be under the guidance of an Oshkosh Corporation mentor.
