ACADEMIC AWARD RECIPIENTS SPRING 2021
Oshkosh North High School congratulates our students for their commitment to academic excellence during the 2020-21 school year.  Please click on the link below to view Academic Award recipients for Spring 2021. The indoor sports (girls swimming, girls tennis and volleyball) will require all coaches and athletes to wear a mask at all times (except when the swimmers are swimming in the water).  All spectators, officials and game workers are required to wear a mask at all times.  

For the outdoor sports - cross country, football, girls golf, boys soccer, girls tennis - coaches must wear a mask at all times.  Athletes in these sports must wear a mask anytime they are not actively involved in practice and/or a game. When they are actively participating they do not have to wear a mask.   Fall coaches may ask their athletes to wear a mask while actively participating in practices as an additional safety measure.  All spectators, officials and game workers are required to wear a mask at all times.

SLEEP AWARENESS WEEK - Please take a moment to view the resources below to promote healthy sleep for teens!

Working to improve teen sleep is another important strategy of our Healthy Teen Minds initiative (in addition to Sources of Strength). because of the critical relationship between sleep and teens' mental and physical health. 

Here is the link to the Let’s Sleep website which is full of resources and classroom materials developed for teens to promote healthy sleep habits.
 
Be sure to check out Sleep 101, which is part of the Let’s Sleep Initiative. Sleep 101 is a free 30-minute online, interactive program featuring scenarios, games, and tips about how students can use sleep to boost health and mental performance.
 
It covers a wide variety of topics including academics, mental health, athletics, physical health, sleep tips, and caffeine use. It has been used in biology, health, drivers education, and advisory classes.

We recognize students are working hard and hope to give back a bit of fun and appreciation!!  For that reason, all students that earn a Spartan PRIDE card will be placed in a drawing and if chosen, will be sent a PRIDE Prize (gift card, Spartan Gear, etc)

If you have not yet ordered a yearbook for your student and wish to do so, you may order from the following website: yearbookforever.com. Search for Oshkosh North High School and follow the prompts. There is a very limited supply available, first come, first serve. Orders can no longer be placed through Infinite Campus. Once all the yearbooks have been sold, no more orders will be accepted.

No in person athletic code meetings this year due to Covid unfortunately.  All FVA schools are now allowing 2 spectators per player (Hortonville is 4). Most are not charging admission.  

Fall sports are now scheduled to start in the early spring:  

• Football and Girls Tennis on March 8th 
• Cross Country on March 15th,
• Boys Soccer on March 22nd 
• Girls Golf on March 29th

The "Fall" season will conclude by late April/early May.  There WILL be games and practices scheduled during spring break (3/29 - 4/2). Fall and Spring sports seasons will overlap slightly and each program will work together so our student-athletes can participate in both seasons.  We are back loading the spring schedules with games to allow fall sports to complete their seasons.  We want to avoid student-athletes having to choose between fall and spring sports, they can do both!   Communication between coaches and student-athletes will be key to this working out!

Spring sports have been pushed back by about a month from their traditional starting dates and the new start dates are as follows:

• Baseball, Boys Golf, Softball and Boys & Girls Track will start April 19th
• Girls Soccer will start on April 26th 
• Boys Tennis on May 3rd.

Spring sports will conclude by mid to late June.

I'd be glad to answer any questions parents/students might have to the best of my ability.  I know there is a lot of uneasiness right now but we are working hard to put together 3 condensed seasons for the student-athletes and coaches this year!  Ultimately our COVID numbers are driving all decisions.

"March is National Athletic Training Month.  Ascension Sports Medicine Wisconsin provides athletic training services to the students, athletes, and staff within your community.  As the community entered the pandemic and quarantine associated with COVID-19, the Ascension Licensed Athletic Trainers were redeployed into performing hospital entrance screenings, pre-operative COVID-19 testing and COVID-19 patient transport, all the while missing their place in the athletic training rooms and on the bench and sidelines for their games and the day to day interaction with their athletes.  As schools have returned to in-person instruction and athletic seasons, the Licensed Athletic Trainers have returned to the athletic training rooms and sidelines.  So for this month, take a moment to thank your Licensed Athletic Trainer for all they do to serve, protect and care for your students and a special thank you for continuing to serve the community during the pandemic."

Dear Spartan Parents

Please note that each school district in our conference is handling fan attendance as a district based decision. Appleton is currently not allowing any fans to attend athletic events.  Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly and Neenah will be allowing up to 2 fans to attend for each student-athlete.  Each of these schools may have a different way of handling spectators so we will be sharing with you each of these district's protocols a few days in advance of away games. 

All FVA schools will be live-streaming all varsity and some sub-varsity athletic events.   The OASD will be live-streaming all levels of our home athletic events.  The district has created a YouTube channel for each high school and the attached sheet explains everything you need to know about how our live streaming will work for our home events.  Also, below is the FVA website link that has all of the streaming information for the other FVA schools when we are away at their site.  If you have any questions please let me know and thanks for your support of Spartan Athletics!

The OASD COVID-19 Dashboard is now available on the District website.

While in Model 4: Virtual Learning, this dashboard will replace the school-wide letters that were previously sent to families and staff each time there was a positive case of COVID-19 within a school or program. That means that we will no longer be sending school-wide notices regarding positive cases, and instead, encourage families and staff to visit our online dashboard for this information. However, please know that if a student or staff member is determined to be a close contact to a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in a school or program, families and staff will still be notified as quickly as possible with close contact and quarantine information. 

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students who are 18 years of age or older ("eligible students") certain rights with respect to the student's education records.  These rights are:
1.    The right to inspect and review the student's education records within 45 days after the day a written request is received. 
2.    The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the parent or eligible student believes are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA.
3.    The right to provide written consent before the school discloses personally identifiable information (PII) from the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without con¬sent.
4.    The right to know that school districts can disclose education records to each other without parent consent if a student is enrolling or transferring to another district.
5.    The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by a school to comply with the requirements of FERPA.  The name and address of the Office that administers FERPA are:

In our continual effort ot increase safety and security at our schools, the Oshkosh Area School District has expanded its safety protocols through the use of the Raptor Visitor Management System. The new visitor management system will be implemented on March 16, 2020, at all OASD schools.

Upon entering a school building, visitors will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID or simply provide their name and date of birth, which will be checked against a national sex offender database to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our buildings. The system will also create a badge for visitors to wear while visiting a school. All visitors that wish to enter student areas of a school OR pick-up a student during school hours will be required to sign-in using the Raptor system. Visitors that are simply dropping something off at the office or meeting with office staff will not need to use the system. 

If a parent/guardian or visitor does not have a US government-issued ID, the school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name and date of birth into the Raptor system. The only data collected is the individual’s name, date of birth, and picture. No other pieces of information are collected nor is any of this information shared with any outside agency. 

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority and the District has been proactive in implementing a layered approach to school safety. The Raptor Visitor Management System will allow us to quickly identify those that should not have access to our schools, and ensure that we continue to provide a safe and welcoming school environment.

Are you (or your student) looking for a different and exciting high school experience for next year? Are you interested in jumpstarting a career in manufacturing with an industry-leading Fortune 500 company - all while earning a regular high school diploma?

The School to Work (S2W) Program is a partnership between the Oshkosh Area School District and Oshkosh Corporation. As a two-year program, S2W provides an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to earn their high school diploma in a non-traditional environment. Each day, a rigorous academic program will be combined with developing manufacturing and employability skills in a hands-on learning environment. Students will attend class for 3 hours per day and will work for 4 hours. This is a paid experience, and each student will be under the guidance of an Oshkosh Corporation mentor.
