Oshkosh North will be holding its 9th Annual Veterans Day Program to honor veterans and their bravery to our country. The event consists of the student body, school administration, special guest speakers and most importantly the veterans themselves.
This event will be held on Monday, November 11th, 2019 from 10:00-11:00am in the North Fieldhouse. There will be a reception at 9:00am in the North Commons for all veterans and their guests and a luncheon following from 11:00-12:00 noon. Veterans and guests may enter through Door #20 by the tennis courts and proceed to the gym.
Our school and community want to come together to recognize and honor the veterans who faithfully and courageously served our country.
Oshkosh North Communities classes are hosting an event on November 11th for Veterans Day called “Sweat for a Vet”. Did you know that the suicide rate for veterans in Wisconsin is higher than the national average? Just to think about that it saddening. Out of 19.5 million veterans in America alone 17 veterans end up taking their own life, DAILY! We are spreading awareness in our community because all veterans suffer from the dramatic change in today's society when they come back from combat, and don't even show it. Most suffer with PTSD which is even worse, especially when they have to go through it alone. We are coming together to raise money to train a service dog to help decrease the rate of suicides here in Wisconsin.
We are partnering with “Crossfit Oshkosh” and raising money for “Got Your Six K9s” for the training of veteran service dogs. We want to make a difference in people's lives by giving them a chance to feel like they have someone by their side, and help them to become socially connected and feel comfortable in the community with their service dogs.
This event will occur on November 11th at Oshkosh North. Check-in is from 6:00-6:30am, and the event will be from 6:30-7:30am. Parking is in the west lot by door 7. All levels are encouraged to participate. There is a simple walking path, or you may want to take a bigger challenge to work up a sweat with activities like a bear crawl.
If you are interested in participating or even donating towards the event, tickets are $25. The easiest way to do that would be going to www.communitesonhs.org and clicking on the link under “Sweat for a Vet Registration”. There you will have the option to donate or pay with a card. If you would like another option of payment, we are accepting checks and cash at the door as well.
Please consider sharing our efforts to make a difference in the lives of the people who fought for us.
Check out the Oshkosh North FFA Fruit Sale! New this year are bags of fruit, great quality but a smaller quantity. The online order forms are attached. Share with your family and friends. Proceeds are used by students to attend leadership workshops and conduct community service projects!
Fruit orders are due Tuesday November 19th and wreath orders are due November 25th. Wreaths will be made as they are ordered.
Please share this great opportunity to support students and their community service projects.
Another option is to visit the Oshkosh North FFA Facebook page www.facebook.com/oshkoshnorthffa and use the links provided. Thank you for your support!
Monday, November 11th there is a dinner fundraiser at Cranky Pat's in downtown Oshkosh. A portion of the dinner proceeds will be donated directly to the Oshkosh Ice Hawks to help support the skaters and the program. We encourage all to come out for pizza on Monday from 5:00-8:00PM.
Our first home game of the season will be at the Oshkosh YMCA on 20th Ave on Saturday, November 23rd vs. Sheboygan. The puck drops for JV at 3:15 and Varsity at 5:15pm.
During our 1st three home games, (November 23, December 3rd, and December 14th) the Ice Hawks will be holding a Food and Warming Drive to help support local food and warming shelters. Patrons of the games are encouraged to bring items such as:
non perishable food items
gift cards (Menards, Target, Walmart, Kwik Trip, etc)
personal hygiene items
hats, mittens, gently used coats, sock
Donation boxes will be at the YMCA on game days. Thanks so much for your support and we are excited to be kicking off another hockey season!
We are so excited to be starting our 3rd year as a partner with Battle on Bago by selling their raffle tickets. For us, this fundraiser supports our student athletes with many of the needs ONHS Spartan teams need every year. In our 1st two years, we have raised over $12,000, and are hoping for our best year yet! ** Reminder: 100% of everything the ONHS Booster Club raises goes directly back to our student athletes!
Quandt Plumbing has also stepped up to again sponsor great prizes for our athletes to win. We are adding more prizes (Not just the $300 VISA gift card for highest ticket sales… but $100 for 2nd & $50 for 3rd place in ticket sales) There will also be 2 large prizes to be named later this month (last years were Apple Watch & Apple AirPods) Plus 2 gift card tree’s with donations from numerous companies that time after time support our athletes!
The great news… The winning starts THIS WEEK!
** Please see attached order form for all instructions on the front & the order form on the back. (These will also be available at fall banquets and our school bank if they would rather pick one up)
All athletes who turn in an order form and money to the school bank will receive 1 entry for every 10 tickets sold – Winners will be drawn this Friday for the following

PURCHASE A YEARBOOK!
2019-2020 school yearbooks are on sale now! You can purchase a yearbook on the IC parent portal for the 2019-2020 school year. Infinite Campus looks a little different this year. Once you are in "Fees", you will need to click on "My Accounts", then click on "Optional Payments". One of the optional payments is "HS Yearbook". Click on that and add to your cart. On October 1, yearbooks are $65 for the rest of first semester. Starting the first day of second semester, the price raises to $70 for the remainder of the year. Order early to save money and to ensure a yearbook is held for you! Extra yearbooks are sold at the end of the year, but it’s not guaranteed how many will be available and they have sold out in the past.
SENIOR PORTRAITS - THOMPSON PHOTOGRAPHY
Because of how successful last year’s senior picture day at North was, we decided to again provide seniors who still need to get their senior pictures done an opportunity to do it at school. The deadline to turn senior pictures in is October 31. The yearbook staff can receive them by email (sent to firstname.lastname@example.org), by disk, or hard copy (wallet sized) to Room 235.
If students do not have pictures yet, we have a professional photographer coming to Oshkosh North on Thursday, November 21. Any student who gets his/her picture taken that day will be assured a slot in the yearbook. Thompson Photography, located on High Ave. here in Oshkosh, will be coming to North on November 21st for the morning. Students will need to make an appointment with Ms. Klein to get a pass to get out of class. At the appointed time, students will go to the auditorium (Lecture Room B) where Thompson will be set up. Photo packages are at discounted rates…but what’s even better is that students do NOT have to purchase a package to get their photo taken and to have that photo in the yearbook. It’s a perfect opportunity for students who don’t have a lot of extra money, but still want a professional picture included in the yearbook.
Email Sara Klein at email@example.com to make an appointment or come see her in Room 235. Appointments are first come, first served, so don’t delay if this is something that you would like to do.
Do you have a senior? This is a GREAT way to honor him or her, by taking out an ad in the Yearbook. Seniors love this, and it's a lot of fun. I have staff who are trained in designing these ads, so if you don't want to create your own (most parents don't), you can send us the pictures and what you'd like it to say, and we'll create it for you! Ads are due in mid-February, but we'll accept them as early as now. If you are interested, let me know and I'll send you a contract with more information. Prices are $200 for a full page ad, $120 for a half page ad, and our most popular, which is $75 for a quarter page ad.
BABY PICTURES FOR SENIOR SLIDESHOW
North is unique in that we have a senior slideshow shown at graduation each year, which features each senior's senior picture and baby picture (among other things). We don't really start working on this until the end of winter, but if you'd like to send a baby picture now while you're thinking about it, it would go to the same emails as the senior pictures. If you need to drop off a hard copy, you would not get that back until the spring (as we won't be doing any scanning of those for awhile), so you might want to hold off on those.
